In Pearl/Diamond or Platinum there is also a Pokétch app called day care checker. If you check on this app, it will show if your Pokémon have left an egg.

Also, in Platinum there is also a Pokétch app called Match checker and it shows how much two Pokémon like each other. This is a good way to find a match in personality for your Pokémon.

Once you have your egg all that remains is hatching it! Hatching is a pretty straight forward task. All one must do is walk around with the Egg in their party. Eggs take up one slot each. There are several different ways to make egg hatching a faster process. One thing is to have both parents be the same species. this isn’t all that practical unless one or both of the parents are acctually second generation and their heritage is of different species. (Meaning they have different stats than their species can have)

Two requires another Pokémon. The other Pokémon must have the ability “Magma Armor” Or “Flame Body”.

These abilities can cut the number of steps needed to hatch an egg down to half as long as they are in the same party as the egg.

Meditite

Yes! That’s Exactly right! There’s a plant type Pokémon that is also a flying type! It’s an odd type combination in that flying is strong against plant type . . . so of course this type combination will work out wonderfully for one of the few Flying/plant types, Tropius!

That’s two less weaknesses it has to worry about! Flying won’t do too good in that it’s a flying type and electric types won’t do all that well either in that plant types are resistant to electric types!

There’s other Pokémon with type combos like this. Meditite Being one example as a psychic/fighting type. Since fighting is weak to psychic and Meditite is both types, it doesn’t have to worry!

And of course! Tropius is the only plant type able to use the HM fly!

You may find them useless at first, but there are several different Pokémon that acctually have amazing potential!

Magicarp – at first this Pokémon only knows splash. But at Lv. 15 it learns tackle and at Lv. 30 it learns flail. Both are not extremely powerful attacks but are still very useful. At Lv. 20 Magicarp evolve into extremely powerful Gyrados

Feebas- These Pokémon are like magicarp in the moves they learn, yet they evolve in a little bit of a different way. While Magicarp evolve into amazingly strong Gyrados at Lv. 20 these “Ugly Ducklings” evolve into the beautiful Milotic when their Beauty condition is maxed out – making them the ideal Pokémon for beauty contests!

• For new Seals daily head on over to Sunnyshore’s market and talk to the guy in the left corner
• Enter to win a raffle at the Jubilife TV station counter (The more you trade the better your chances)
• In Veilstone right before the Gym, there is a house in which lives a girl who will massage on of your Pokémon a day. She will find dress up items on them daily
• After you are able to go to the Resort Area and are accepted into the Ribbon Syndicate, you can get a massage daily there as well
• After beating the Elite Four and completing the Sinnoh Pokédex, head on over to Lucas/Dawn’s house in Sandgem town to have their sister tell you the location of a Pokémon herd daily (This info is also sometimes on TV)
• The Trainers change daily in the Seven Stars Restaurant (It is open from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm)
• For Free Pokéballs and items show off your Pokémon to the editor of the newspaper office in Solaceon
• Go to the Floaroma Flower Shop and talk to the woman with long brown hair. She will give you a free berry every day
• Visit the most south west house in Pastoria and talk to the woman. She will also give you a berry a day (These are rarer)
• Visit the berry Master on Route 208 for a berry a day
• The first house in Pastoria is the Scarf man’s. Show him a well fed (Poffins)Pokémon and he will give you a scarf depending on what kind of poffin
• Visit Dr.Footstep on Route 213 before Pastoria city so he can tell how close you and your Pokémon are (He’ll give you a ribbon if you’re real close)
• If you have Pokémon lv. 90< visit the market in Sunnyshore and talk to the woman at the first table on the left. She’ll give your pokemon an effort ribbon
• Visit the Pokémon Mansion on Route 212 to visit the garden for changing Pokémon appearances
• Visit the safari zone because the Pokémon found there changes daily

Eggs!

Everyone knows about the birds and the bees? Right? Well even for Pokémon, the same is true! (Even though it would be more like Pidgeys and Combees . . .)

Basics

When two Pokémon who are opposite gender and are in the same egg group (I’ll explain this a little later) They can create eggs when left for a time at the Pokémon daycare!

There are many other factors than also come into play when deciding how to mate Pokémon. Pokémon with similar personality traits tend to get along better and of course, have a better chance of breeding together. Pokémon of the same species will also breed faster.

Inheriting stats and moves

Many people use breeding as a way to create the ultimate Pokémon in their opinion. This is because you are able to breed stats into your baby Pokémon. Say you have one female Pokémon whose species has high defense levels while the male Pokémon has high attack stat levels. You can breed these two together and the baby will inherit stats depending on what gender it is.

Gender is a major role in breeding. The baby will be the same species as the mother will, while the baby can also inherit TM moves that are otherwise a one time thing from their fathers.

Going back to inheriting stats, the gender of the parents plays a factor as well. A female baby will inherit stats from her father, while a male baby inherits stats from his mother. This makes it somewhat hard to get the desired effect of an “ultimate”  Pokémon stats and thus can take several tries to get right.

If both male and female parents know a move that there baby will be able to learn later in life, then it will inherit that move.

There is also another type of move that can be obtained through breeding, but the process is somewhat complicated and meant for more expirienced and patient breeders. It is called Hereditary Moves. Also more commonly known as “Egg Moves.”

Put simply, Egg moves are moves that a Pokémon would not normally learn later in life by leveling up. These moves are inherited from the father as well. To breed them you must have a male Pokémon that can use them later in life and a female version of the Pokémon who can’t that will be the mother.

Egg Groups

Like I mentioned earlier,  only Pokémon who are in the same egg groups can breed. Egg groups are just that. Groups of Pokémon that are able to breed with each other. There are many different types of egg groups and they are sorted basically by what kind of body shape the Pokémon has.

The Groups are :

Some Pokémon are in more than one group. Like Seedot who is in Plant Group but also in Field Group Because it is able to walk on land. These types of Pokémon can act as what is known as “Intermediaries” and breed stat traits that are not normally found in their Egg Group.

 Say a male Pokémon is in the Field Group but also the Water 1 Group because it can not only walk on land but swim in water. It has a strong Special Attack Trait while its mate doesn’t because it is a different type of Pokémon in the field Group. If the baby is female, the resulting Pokémon will be the same as it’s mother but have a higher Special attack because of its fathers heritage!

The Only two exceptions to the Egg group rules are Ditto and Pokémon like Nidoran

The Ditto Rule

Any Pokémon not in the unbreedable group can breed with a Ditto.

 The Nido Rule

If a Nidoran is breeding, and follows all the rules, there’s is a 50% chance that the egg will hatch as a male Nidoran, and a 50% chance as a Nidoran that is female.

This also works for Illumise and Volbeat since they are two different versions of the same Species.

I was only eleven when I first departed into the vast reigon of Kanto. The Starter I chose was charmander. He was a fiery little devil, charmander. We traveled all over Kanto in search of Pokémon little and big!

I Remember going through the dark Rock Tunnel together with him and every time he was poisoned I’d only work harder and squint harder too!

We went all the way up the tower and mourned for the mother of the cubone . . .

We worked hard to defeat team Rocket and drove them out of Saffron . . .

The First Eevee I received from the building in Celedon city became a Jolteon. Soon after I caught a Pikachu too. We’d all go down the bike path and beat a few bikers before heading on to the Poké – Safari zone.

The day I challenged the Elite Four was the day I earned the right to call myself a true Pokémon master . . .

Or had it merely been the day I had befriended a lv five charmander? . . .

Every battle was a test. Every day a trial. Every Pokémon met, a friend . . .

The first Pokémon I released was a Charizard lv. 60 (It was a ceremony type thing for me. Wierd I know). . . That was before I left for Johto at age thirteen

 and Love of battling!

The First is often the most important Pokémon to a trainer-in-the-making! Without it a trainer will never be able to battle, train, enter contests, or catch other Pokémon! So you must choose wisely!

In Pokemon/Platinum/Diamond/Pearl, FireRed/LeafGreen and in Ruby/Sapphire/ Emerald – The first Gym battle you will partake in are all rock type gyms! So having a Grass type or water type would come in very handy . . . However having a fire type starter will be very difficult for your first try unless you are lucky enough to have caught a grass or water type or your fire type knows another move type than fire. .  . This is one reason why many people believe fire is the hardest type to start with. But all it comes down to is knowledge of weaknessess and strengths in your Pokémon!

For example – When put into the hands of a patient trainer in the Hoenn Region, a Torchic when evolved into Cumbusken at level 16 can learn Double Kick – which is a very effective move against rock types . . .

 That is why one must also be very patient when training their starter. Starters are often the Pokémon which trainers will keep the longest and depend on. When trained to a higher level that the gym leaders, any Pokémon can beat their first gym with ease!
